Protecting Superior from Unsafe Training Flights

Aircraft traffic over Superior is not simply a noise issue. It is a safety issue. Repetitive training flights put small propeller aircraft, often flown by student and inexperienced pilots, over our neighborhoods at low altitudes.

The risk is not hypothetical. On August 28, an aircraft associated with RMMA crashed and came to rest upside down in a field. Fortunately, nobody was injured. However, this is not an isolated incident. Superior should not have to wait for an accident in one of our neighborhoods before this issue is taken seriously.

I recognize that Town Council cannot control airspace or dictate flight paths. But that does not mean we are powerless. I will push for practical solutions with Jefferson County, RMMA, flight schools, neighboring communities, and federal aviation officials to move repetitive training activity away from residential neighborhoods whenever safely possible.

Superior residents deserve more than quieter skies. They deserve safer skies.

A Superior for Every Generation

Superior remains a wonderful community for families, but our population is changing. The Town’s housing research found that the number of residents age 65 and older increased by 246% since 2011, making older adults Superior’s fastest-growing age group.

At the same time, families face high housing costs, limited housing choices, changing school enrollment, and concerns about whether the next generation will be able to build a life here. These issues are connected. Our planning must reflect the Superior we are becoming while protecting the qualities that made people want to call this town home.

I want Superior to work for residents at every stage of life, from young families and working adults to teenagers, empty nesters, and older residents who hope to age in place. That means thoughtfully considering housing options, accessibility, transportation, recreation, community services, public spaces, and opportunities for connection. It also means ensuring that residents of every age and background have a meaningful voice in the decisions shaping our future.

This is not about choosing one generation over another. It is about building a connected community in which every generation can thrive.

The Leadership I Will Bring

I will bring integrity, accountability, compassion, and a collaborative spirit to the Town Council. I will ask difficult questions, study the facts, listen before reaching conclusions, and work constructively with residents, Town staff, regional partners, and fellow Council members.

I do not believe leadership means having every answer. I believe it means being prepared, being accessible, and being willing to do the work required to find responsible solutions.

Superior is a special place. I would be honored to earn your trust and help shape a quieter, more connected, and more welcoming Superior for every generation.
